The actor, 40, beat Johnny Depp, 45, and Leonardo DiCaprio, 34, in the Forbes Star Currency list.

‘He has shown, time and again, that, in today’s world, regardless of the material, people want to watch Will Smith,’ says the US business magazine.

‘He is cross-genre and proved it multiple times.’

The list has been compiled using box office receipts, critical reception and the actor’s ability to attract financing.

Angelina Jolie, 33, is the highest ranked actress at No 4 – one ahead of partner Brad Pitt, 45.

Keira Knightley, 23, was the youngest woman on the list, in 42nd place.
