Unable to truly tap into the essence of the real-life character of Christine Collins, whose son disappeared in 1920s Los Angeles, Angelina says she thought of her late mother in order to connect with the character. But when she began to reflect on Marcheline, she started crying:

Everybody called her marshmallow as a joke, because she was just the softest, most gentle woman in the world,”

said Angelina and moved to tears.

She is very much Christine Collins. She was really sweet and would never get angry; she couldn’t swear to save her life. But when it came to her kids, she was really, really fierce, and so this is very much her, and her story, in that she was the woman I relate to, who had that elegance and strength through just knowing what was right.”

Angelina’s mother died of ovarian cancer in January of last year.

Angelina denies Us Weekly’s recent report that she underwent fertility treatments. “If they had been conceived though IVF, we would have been happy to discuss it,” she tells People magazine. “But we have been fortunate never to have had fertility problems.”

Irish rocker Bono is said to have agreed to become godfather to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newborn twins.

The couple, who welcomed Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline 2 weeks ago, have been staying at the U2 frontman’s mansion in the south of France for the past week.

And now they’ve asked Bono, 48, to take on the special role in their lives.

‘Brad and Angie think the world of Bono,’ a source tells the Sunday Mirror. ‘They have been friends for years.

“Angelina Jolie left the Clinic Santa Maria of Fondation Lenval early in the morning of July 19th,” hospital rep Nadine Bauer confirmed to PEOPLE. “The mother and babies are doing very well.”

There was only a handful of journalists camped outside the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, early Saturday morning but even they didn’t realize when Jolie slipped out of the hospital with her twins at 4 a.m. local time.

Angelina Jolie and her twins went home to join their siblings, Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2 – at their French estate, the Chateau Miraval.

Jolie and the newborn twins must have made a “top secret” exit this morning. One observer said, “We saw the cars and we thought it was her but we didn’t see anything.”

Reporters and photographers have lurked on the rooftops nearby, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Jolie-Pitts exit from the hospital. They expected they would leave by helicopter, as Jolie had arrived weeks before.

Jolie’s secret getaway occurred around 4 a.m. when a Volkswgen minibus with black windows arrived outside the hospital.

“There was a sudden spray of light out of the hospital’s garage way and then four or five people came out of that through a rear doorway,” the witness said. “They stood behind the hospital in a small courtyard in the dark.”

“With all the press attention around them, a constant watch on the front of the hospital, they managed to leave so quickly, my hat’s off to them,” the witness added.

At 9 a.m., Dr. Michel Sussmann, who delivered the twins by Cesarean section on July 12, confirmed the family’s departure, telling reporters, “You can go home. The story is over.”

Sussmann confirmed the Nice Matinnewspaper report that Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Cesarean section on Saturday night. Knox weighed 5.03 lbs, and Vivienne 5 lbs.

The twins are the fifth and sixth children for Jolie, 33, and partner Brad Pitt, 44, who are already parents to Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2.

“The mother and father are very, very happy,” Sussmann told PEOPLE.

The doctor told the Associated Press that the Cesarean was moved forward “for medical reasons” so that the babies could be born “in the best conditions.” He also said Jolie is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days.

On July 1, Jolie checked in to the Fondation Lenval hospital to await the births. The family has been living in the south of France since this spring.

Jolie recently told Entertainment Weekly that she was surprised – but not daunted – when she learned she was having twins. “It did shock us, and we jumped to six [children] quickly,” she said. “But we like a challenge.” -people
