Pregnant Angelina Jolie has diabetes, claims US magazine
Pregnant Angelina Jolie hasgestational diabetes, according to a US magazine.
The condition affects 3 to 5 per cent of expectant mums and is normally screened for between 24 and 28 weeks into the pregnancy.
It is caused when horomones from the placenta affect the production of a mum-to-be’s insulin. Sugar from the foods she eats stay in her blood stream and cause high blood sugars. This is gestational diabetes.
The symptoms can include increased thirst and tiredness.
Angelina, 32, who is believed to be expecting twins in the summer, is said to be feeling very unwell
‘She found out about a month ago,’ a source tells American Star. ‘She’s been seeing a nutritionist about it frequently. She’s sick and irritable and feels heavy and weak.’
Gestational diabetes is usually managed by diet and exercise and disappears after the baby is born. But it must be controlled carefully and, in some cases, it can develop into the more serious Type 2
Angelina and partner Brad Pitt, 44, are already parents to Shiloh, 18 months, and adopted sons Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, and adopted daughter Zahara, 3.
