To me it’s not offensive, just weird to share such a private thing in such a public place. sorry, but breastfeeding is intimate, unless you are in a tribal setting and all the women walk around topless with babies attached to them, but that ain’t us.

When my children were babies, I breastfeed them right during church services (for example), and to my knowledge never heard one complaint about it. Of course there are ways to be discreet so that even if people around you know what’s going, mom can cover things up enough so that baby is comfortable without the boob hanging entirely out there for the world to see.

for those who commented that she should “pump and put it in a bottle” or “cover with a blanket” i can tell that you have never breastfed, or actually witnessed a child nursing. i have breastfed two children and i can tell you from personal experience that if a baby doesn’t want a blanket on it’s head, it’s not going to stay covered. and while my first child would take a bottle while out in public, and even allow me to cover him while i nursed, my second would scream like a banshee if i tried to cover her. and to this day she will refuse a bottle. it’s called nipple confusion. so, rather than accomodate the comfort of complete strangers, most mothers will just go ahead and feed their hungry children. i’m sure it would be more annoying to hear a hungry baby screaming than to see a mother breastfeeding.
i am currently breastfeeding my second child, and while I do have some modesty i still NIP. i was recently at a festival in my area and decided the feed my 6 month old. even though i was covered, it was funny to see the dirty looks and glares that i received. one couple ACTUALLY GOT UP AND MOVED AWAY FROM ME. i am glad to see a celebrity being a good role model for other mothers by NIP’ing. it gives me the courage to get rid of the nursing cover and just be comfortable feeding my baby.
