		<description>I've about had enough of people praising Bono for his philanthropy.  Can't you all see the forest for the trees?  Bono's efforts are entirely self-righteous.  People actually working in the grassroots movement to fight AIDS think he's a joke.  Worse, his RED Campaign is actually really dangerous - sending a message that systemic problems like AIDS can be solved by buying more crap.  Bono spreads an image of Africa that is desolate, monolithic, undiverse, and entirely disempowered. For Africa to overcome its systemic problems it needs to focus on its assets, not handouts, not images of children with flies on their eyes, and certainly not GAP T-shirts.

Those opposed to Bono's brand of self-interested and ineffective philanthropy are calling for him to retire from public life.  We have a campaign going to raise pledges that will go (directly) to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, but only once Bono retires from public life.
