Brad and Angelina Choose Bono to Be Twins’ Godfather

Couple think U2 star would be a good influence on Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline

Irish rocker Bono is said to have agreed to become godfather to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newborn twins.

The couple, who welcomed Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline 2 weeks ago, have been staying at the U2 frontman’s mansion in the south of France for the past week.

And now they’ve asked Bono, 48, to take on the special role in their lives.

‘Brad and Angie think the world of Bono,’ a source tells the Sunday Mirror. ‘They have been friends for years.

‘Brad is a massive U2 fan and Angelina is inspired by Bono’s humanitarian work.’

The couple are believed to be planning a Christening ceremony to make Bono’s position official.

I’ve about had enough of people praising Bono for his philanthropy. Can’t you all see the forest for the trees? Bono’s efforts are entirely self-righteous. People actually working in the grassroots movement to fight AIDS think he’s a joke. Worse, his RED Campaign is actually really dangerous - sending a message that systemic problems like AIDS can be solved by buying more crap. Bono spreads an image of Africa that is desolate, monolithic, undiverse, and entirely disempowered. For Africa to overcome its systemic problems it needs to focus on its assets, not handouts, not images of children with flies on their eyes, and certainly not GAP T-shirts.

Those opposed to Bono’s brand of self-interested and ineffective philanthropy are calling for him to retire from public life. We have a campaign going to raise pledges that will go (directly) to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, but only once Bono retires from public life.
